Revised Vision
I've been putting things out on the web for a long time, mainly on the topic of web development. Just the other day I realized it was a full decade ago that I made the transition from Developer to Engineering Manager. Even though I've kept one foot in writing code it's been varying a lot between different companies and their needs.
Software development is the foundation of my professional identity and probably will be for the case for the rest of my career, but I believe a recalibration of the particular topics I write about is way overdue.
From now until the next revision, I intend to focus on the sociotechnical systems that are tech companies and the challanges encoundered when managing them.
I resonate with many of the ideas and perspectives in the following books and papers:
- Measure What Matters by John Doerr
- Empowered, Inspired, Transformed by Marty Cagan
- Peopleware by Tom DeMarco & Tim Lister
- Team Topologies by Matthew Skelton & Manuel Pais
- The principles of Product Development Flow by Donald G.Reinertsen
- The SPACE of Developer Productivity by Nicole Forsgren, Margaret-Anne Storey Chandra Maddila, Thomas Zimmermann, Brian Houck, and Jenna Butler
And I've had the the fortune to apply many of the tools, strategies and tactics first hand in my day to day work as an Engineering Manager.
